BitDefender 2009 Review

The new BitDefender was just released and I have been trying it out for the last few days. I am very positive regarding several issues.

Interesting New Features

Among the most interesting new features I found in my initial tests are that it is faster than previous versions.

I also find it even less intruding than previously although I never really had a problem with that. I like the new management console as it gives a clear overview and alerts on the most important issues.

Easy and clear overview

The new management console give a clearer overview over what’s going on. You also have the switch between simple and advanced view (see simple view in the image below). The simple view is enough if you’re no security specialist and you can easily find all settings you need.

I also like the Game mode. Not because I play a lot of games, but because when I work with heavy graphics applications such as Photoshop or Dreamweaver it’s great to set BitDefender to use even less resources.

Previously available in Total Security only BitDefender has now been so kind as to include it in Internet Security as well (see version comparison).

The Gamer mode feels especially important because I am still on a relatively old (time-to-buy-new” computer model.

Spam Junk Mail Protection

And then when it’s time to download emails I can easily switch it back to protect me from Junk. From my initial tests the junk filter has also worked good.

A few false positives (not junk that was placed in the junk folder anyways) but I hope that will be corrected after a few more days of telling the software what’s junk and what’s not (the Bayesian filter will kick in and learn)

    This is a great product I would have to say that this year at least bit defender is no# 1.Its simple, powerful and flexible.I have a very good feeling about this and the scan results prove i was right.I am using trial right now although I am now considering to buy it.The only major problem i see is that i cannot purchase through internet and download through internet its product with all details.PayPal is not accepted which makes it hard for most internet users to buy this product.

    I have found this product to be the best,I have tried other products but they could not match up.

    I have used Bitdefender V10 and 2008 for 3 Years with no problems.I installed 2009 three times and it slows my computer way down.It takes a good bit of time before I can finally remove it.I can than reinstall 2008 and every thing works fast and no problems.Windows XP Pro-SP3 -2.6 p4 Intel-1 GB Memory WITH I.E.8 Installed.Any help Thinks EUc

    Hello Euclid,

    When Bitdefender is installed it start to deep-scan your computer. That’s why it slows it down. Just let it run over night and this should be fixed. This doesn’t happen with your old version as you already had it installed.

    Hi I let it run for a few hours and it never finished the scan.2008 runs a complete scan in less than 30 minutes after I reinstall it.How long are you suppose to let it run for a scan after installing 2009.
