Bitdefender….staying awake for you

More than just for office and school-related purposes,  the computer has become an integral part of modern everyday life. Internet shopping and internet banking is an established business that is run by the internet using any computer device. However, with the internet being used by millions worldwide, it is a common knowledge that there are ill-minded individuals who are there to cause harm or disrupt the lives of those who rely on their computers and the internet to complete everyday transactions.

Protect Yourself and Family!

With this danger in mind, it is normal to look for ways to keep your computer and yourself protected. You need first to check for your system’s vulnerability and then identify the means to which you can avoid being compromised with the different malwares, viruses, and various hacking techniques.

How do you check if your PC is safe? Here is a simple guide in making sure that you are secured:

Always check for the authenticity of your operating systems especially if you are running a Windows OS.

The Windows Security Center should be updated and is installed with the right protective features to avoid being breeched with viruses and malwares.

It is better to manually install updates rather than relying on automatic ones.

There is a tendency that when your computer is infected with a malware, the automatic updates are blocked and will not work. This will make your system very vulnerable to a lot of viruses from the internet. Manually scanning your system is also recommended as there are malwares that displays false scan results.

Make sure that you have the latest anti-virus software installed and that it is updated very often.

Always check the website of your anti- virus software for you to be aware of any updates. It is also advised that you block websites that are marked as malicious or might have suspicious content. A pop- up blocker is very useful against websites that spam the user with pop-up sites which contain malwares and viruses. An anti- spyware is also highly recommended as spywares are known to make any PC unusable.

Secure all connections with a password.

Avoid giving out passwords or even allow other people from connecting into your network if you can. This makes your network less vulnerable from hackers that are looking for unsecured connections to hack. Even if your friend is unaware about it, hackers can use her connection to your network to penetrate into your system.

Lastly, get yourself updated with the latest news on internet security breech and hacking.

There are many resources online where you can get educated so that you will be aware of the new kinds of hacks, viruses, and malwares that are being distributed in the internet. From a lot of forums, you can get ideas and tips that will help you become vigilant against the harmful elements of the internet.

With these simple steps in checking your computer’s security, you can be sure that you do not let other people poke their noses into any of your business. But even if you managed to do all these, you still can’t make sure that you are entirely protected.

One of the best things you can do to avoid compromising yourself with hackers is by limiting sensitive information and other files on your computer. However, even if it is recommended that you keep personal files away from your computer, it is highly impossible as everything is in digital format nowadays. Not only do you deal with having to keep everything from pictures, music, and even your work into your computer, you also have to accept the fact that you divulge sensitive information such as credit card information, bank accounts, and other information in the internet.

So what can you do to enhance the security features of your PC? The best way is to purchase reliable internet protection software like the Bitdefender Total Security 2013. Bitdefender is the creator of one of the world’s fastest and most effective lines of internationally-certified internet security software.

Recently, the company launched its new Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 software .

Since 2001, the company has been an industry pioneer, introducing and developing award-winning protection. Bitdefender technology secures the digital experience of around 400 million home and corporate users across the globe.

You are probably wondering what the company is offering in terms of new features or improvements in their 2013 lineup. Let’s have a look at the key defenses of the latest 2013 which was released on June 26th.

Basically, what Bitdefender 2013 has done was to improve its system performance, plus improve the performance of the product interface.

The new software had added a lot of extra security features such as ‘Bitdefender Safepay’ which automatically opens all your e-banking and e-shopping pages in a separate iron-clad, secure browser.

What it does is make transactions and other critical operations on the Internet more secure by running them in a browser that is separated from the rest of the environment with its self-protect mechanism that offers protection against key logger attempts, packet sniffing, and lot of other threats associated with the sensitive activities such as online banking or online shopping.

It is rather unique in a sense that it offers protection against threats from unsecure networks.

Users will greatly benefit from this unique feature because users need to perform online transactions anywhere whether at home, at the airport, or accessing different wireless connections that you don’t trust; Bitdefender now has a solution for this.

On top of that, they’ve added a new dashboard for ‘Parental Control’ which is accessible from anywhere at any time. It is also available as a stand-alone product.

Moreover, it is available for Facebook platform–from here you can monitor and configure many features, including the monitoring of Facebook and web browsing in general, and even phone calls if an app is installed on Android phones.
What’s more, there’s this new cool feature, ‘Anti-theft’ which offers the ability to locate and lock your laptop or PC in case of loss or theft. It also has the ability to wipe data to make sure thief can’t access it.

Bitdefender 2013 Antivirus, the #1 ranked antivirus technology to secure online transactions, protect mobile devices from loss/theft, automatically back up files, and tune-up PCs is not just any security. Anything less is second best!

safesurfingHello Friends,

I have received several questions regarding what  is the best solution for Safe Home Surfing. I thought this is a good time to put this matter to rest. The simple answer is that we need a software that has an antivirus solution and a firewall.

So what is the difference between Antivirus and Firewall you may ask?

The short  answer… Antivirus – To put it quite simply the antivirus is to take care and protect you against viruses and the Firewall is to make sure no Trojans or Spyware has passed through your antivirus and is sending confidential information out from your computer.

The longer answer that is depending on how computer literate you are is for example, if you receive an email that is a phishing attempt, would you recognize it? If not, you should use either some kind of anti phishing solution or have an antivirus that includes this protection. (Phishing is an attempt to send you to a fake website, looking like the real thing to trick you to reveal your login information. The criminal will then use this information to login to your real account and steal your money. These emails normally disguise themselves to be from banks, friends in your address book or online memberships.

Below I have described the different protection areas you may need . Then it’s up to you to see and decide with your knowledge what will be most suitable for your needs.

Antivirus – Protects you against malicious viruses that can damage the functionality of your computer.

Firewall – Will stop secretly installed software (virus, adware, spyware) that will contact servers outside your computer and send information about your computer and what you have stored there.

Antispam – to filter/block annoying emails coming to your inbox or sometimes warn you about the emails.

Anti phishing – warns about emails and websites that are trying to spoof information to make you reveal your passwords and also prevents personal information from leaking via e-mail, web or instant messaging.

Security – allows you to connect to any network anywhere and automatically modifies your firewall protection settings to suit your location. Also has a Wi-Fi monitor that helps prevent unauthorized persons to access your wi-fi network.

Privacy control – Privacy settings to make sure you don’t give out too much information when surfing.

Parental control – To restrict users from reaching certain websites for example block access to inappropriate websites and e-mail. Schedule and limits kids’ access to Internet and to applications.

New Parental Control Features in Bitdefender 2010

  • Newly added reporting system allowing parents to view what websites their children visit.
  • Moreover, parents can set specific time intervals in which their children are allowed to access the Internet or use certain applications.

I currently use the following security applications and I will share my tips which have worked with you:

BitDefender 2010 Internet Security –  I used to us it only for Antivirus and Firewall and had the antispam, privacy control and parental control turned off. The reason I did not use all functions is because I wanted my system to be affected as little as possible. Fortunately with the new release of Bitdefender 2010 you can have this items activated without affecting your computer speed at all!

Apart from that I also use Roboform to store my passwords. You can install a free version that allows you to store upto 10 logins. One reason is that if someone would be able to install a keylogger on my computer they would not see the passwords I enter anyways. Other reasons is that I can carry all my passwords between computers, but that’s not security related.

I also use adware a no-cost version to scan my computer for adware about once a month.

I would recommend Bitdefender Internet Security version.  Reason being  Bitdefender Internet Security will lock out  viruses, hackers & spam, while providing parental control and firewall protection. Unless you have need for the added hard disk maintenance functionality of  Bitdefender Total Security.  Total security has more of  hard disk functionality than security functionality really.

With Bitdefender Total Security you have the following additional features which are hard disk functionality:

.    Backup functionality
.    Remove registry entries
.    Delete files so that they are irrecoverable

Basically the Total security version of Bitdefender offers you a combination of computer protection and at the same time computer maintenance.

Until Next Time Keep yourself and Kids Surfing Safe 🙂

bug3Take caution on downloading those files in Adobe .pdf format as it can contain malware which can surely affect your computer. Below are the malwares and the e-threats it can cause to its infested computers:

  1. Backdoor PoisonIvy.GK

This malware gives the attacker an access to execute unauthorized commands on the victim computer and even monitors and logs all the applications and application versions which the computer owner uses.

  1. Trojan.Spammer.Tedroo.BA

A malware which converts its infected computer into a spamming machine.

  1. Trojan.Spy.Goldun.NEP

It monitors Internet Explorer windows and steals user’s authentication for e-gold.

For you not to fall for these e-threats, make sure to install Adobe security updates and most importantly, update your security solutions.

Until next time – keep safe!
